Playing the Icecast (Winamp) Stream
Playing the Icecast (Winamp) stream in Microsoft Windows
Note: You need either a 2.x or 5.x version of Winamp which has streaming ogg support. These instructions assume you do not have either.
- Download the newest version of Winamp. You need either a Winamp 2.x or 5.x version which can play OGGs. For the 5.x series, this means that you need the full, bundle, or pro versions.
- Run the installer for winamp. Accept all of defaults until you reach the "Choose Install Options" screen. Here, make sure to uncheck "eMusic Icon and Offer for 50 Free MP3s" and the "AOL Music Now Icon and Offer for 30 day free trial" options. For the remaining options, select the defaults (though you may wish to use the Winamp Classic Skins when prompted.
- After the installer is finished, it will prompt for "User Information." Check "Do not ask me again until next install" and then click later.
- Winamp should now be properly installed. It will play a demo sound file to verify that it is working.
- To play the stream either:

Click on the
icons at the top of any page on the website.
- Open the stream address directly in winamp:
- Open the Winamp Playlist
- Click "Add" then "Add URL"
- In the box presented, type (or copy and paste) the Icecast stream url: http://wmhd.rose-hulman.edu:8000/wmhd-high.ogg.m3u
- The stream should now be listed in the playlist box and can be played by double clicking on it.
The iTunes Problem
Sometimes, when iTunes is installed after Winamp, clicking on the link to the Icecast (Winamp) stream no longer works.
In this condition, there are several solutions:
- Uninstall iTunes
- Use the instructions for manually adding a stream to winamp listed above.
- Alter iTunes so that it is not associated with .m3u files

- Download and install VLC for OSX
Playing the Icecase (Winamp) stream in Linux
- Download and install XMMS
- For Gentoo: type
emerge xmms libvorbis
- For Debian/Ubuntu: type
apt-get install xmms libvorbis0a
- For RedHat: Download the rpm; type
rpm --install xmms-<version>.src.rpm
- Open XMMS
- Click +FILE then +URL.
- A box will open, type the stream address ( http://wmhd.rose-hulman.edu:8000/wmhd-high.ogg ) into the box
- Double click on the new entry in the playlist to play the stream
